All of us have a lot going on in our lives everyday. We go to work, we take care of the kids, we take care of the chores around the house, we mow our lawn, and if we’re lucky we find a couple of minutes a week to do something we enjoy.
Unfortunately many of us are wired to be “on” 24/7, which means we are great at staying on task and being productive, but we also fail to enjoy all the happiness and abundance that life has to offer, because we rarely know when to quit.
If you know what it feels like to stay up late worrying if you’ve accomplished everything you need to and have a constant feeling of nervousness and dread about everything on your plate, then it’s time for you to eliminate the one thing that could be ruining your success—stress. Here are 3 ways you can reduce the stress in your life and get on the path to greater happiness, peace, and abundance.
#1: Alter Your Perception
Sometimes we get so caught up in our perception of reality, that we actually end up losing focus of what reality is. Remember that a situation only has power over you if you allow it to be so. Too often we create more stress for ourselves by taking on more stressful tasks and putting pressure on ourselves, when that’s not necessary at all. If you truly want to reduce stress, you have to become the master of your mental and emotional state. When that happens your perception will change and you’ll be on your way to less stress.
#2: Communicate Your Thoughts
Have you ever been so frustrated about a pressing task that you feel like you’ll explode? If you hold everything that your feeling inside, you probably will explode sooner or later. The key to avoiding a blowup is to be honest and open about your feelings. If you feel like you’re taking on too much at work, communicate with management that you need a short-term plan to ease the pressure. If you have things in your personal relationships that are bothering you, be honest with people and relieve some of the burden. I promise you’ll feel less stress if you communicate openly on a regular basis.
#3: Exercise Regularly
I know this may sound like a broken record, but exercise really is one of the best things you can do for your body and your mind. Keep in mind that you don’t have to go out and run a marathon to relieve your stress-you just have to be active 3-4 times per week for at least 30 minutes or so. Even though it’s a short amount of time to spare, staying consistent with exercise will allow you to clear your head, refocus on your priorities, and relieve the tension that stress adds to your life.
